Roy came to the First Baptist Church of Boone in September of 2009 with his wife Robin. Prior to Boone, Roy has served as a youth and campus minister in churches in North Carolina, Georgia, and Florida. He is a graduate of Carson Newman College (1979) and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (1981). He also did some graduate work in Counseling Psychology at the University of Tennessee. He has served on the CBF Youth Ministers Advisory Board and Passport Camps Advisory Board. He has served on the General Board of the Baptist State Convention and the Council on Christian Higher Education, is a current participant in the High Country Multi-Faith Clergy group, and continues to serve as the bluegrass festival chaplain of Merle Fest. Along with his wonderful wife Robin, they have one daughter Katy, and a son in law, Adam, who have two daughters, Amelia and Eleanor, and they have one son Kyle, and daughter in law, Lisa, who have one daughter, Naomi. The Dobyns love being Granddaddy and Nana, and listen to bluegrass, go to movies, Broadway plays, travel, and are armchair quarterbacks for the Tennessee Volunteers.
